RETIRED TRUCK DRIVER BRENT BEAUDEAUX FOCUSING ON SECOND CAREER AS A COUNTRY ENTERTAINER

By David C. Lannan

OPENING ACT

Brent said he has always dreamed of being a country music entertainer but it has not happened the way he wanted. A retired truck driver, Brent said he is finding it challenging to get attention in the music industry at his age. He hasn’t had lessons and believes his musical abiity is a gift from the Lord. Currently his favorite places to perform are

local restaurants, local bars in south east Texas, Southwest Louisiana. “It’s really the only opportunities I’ve had but I would branch out,” he said.

Q & A WITH BRENT BEAUDEAUX

DL: Who are some of the biggest musical influences in your life?

BB: Merle Haggard, George Jones, Conway Twitty. Three of the best ever I believe. Had it not been for them, where would country music be and if they were still here would it be where it is now?

DL: What is your favorite style or genre of music and why?

BB: Classic country music and some classic rock. I grew up in an era where music was at its best. Today’s world, especially country, has no idea what real country music is all about. That is my opinion.

DL: As a songwriter, what are some of your favorite songs you have written and why?

BB: "Where Are You?" It’s a song about my son who died at nine years old. "I Still Cry With You." It’s a dedication to my wife who passed away in 2021. "Should I Stay or Should I Leave?" Written during a rough time in my life. "Burning Bridges." I think it’s just a good song along with the others.

DL: Do you remember the first song you sang in public?

BB: Yes, I do. Merle Haggard, “Mama Tried”; Hank Williams Junior. “It’s All Over But the Crying”

DL: What do you find most challenging about the music business?

BB: Getting promoted. Of course, getting Radio play and just trying to be recognized -very tough.

DL: What is your favorite part of the music business and why?

BB: I love being on stage. I’m just performing. It really fills my soul.

DL: If you could perform with anyone in the music business who would it be and why?

BB: Alan Jackson or George Strait. It would be an honor to perform with both or either one. Jamey Johnson I think is outstanding. I would love to do a song with him.

DL: What advice do you have for anyone wanting to get in the music business as a singer/songwriter or musician?

BB: If you have a dream, you have the ambition, you have the drive, (and you gotta have the integrity) get out there and get it done. It’s not gonna come to you. You got to go get it.

CLOSING THOUGHTS

“I’m 67 years old now. I still want to perform, but I think my age hurts me as far as industry goes,” Brent said, “but I’m gonna continue because I love classic country music, and it needs to be heard.”
