OPENING ACT
Born in Ft. Benning GA and now residing in Aurora, Colorado, Lee Sims began his singing career at home listening to his parent's turntable. He grew up listening to Eddy Arnold, Tennessee Ernie Ford, Johnny Cash and Jim Reeves. His first song in public was Hank Williams “Cheating Heart.” Lee sings traditional country, a little Southern Rock and plays guitar, bass and harmonica.

Q&A WITH LEE SIMS
DL: Have you written any of your own music or songs or co-wrote with anyone?
LS: No, I find the writing of music better left to people with the gift of writing. Since I don’t write, I look for songs that strike a chord in my soul, no pun intended.
DL: What is your favorite or couple of favorite originals you have sung/written and what do they mean to you?
LS: I’m Gonna Let You Down, Wyoming Wind and my latest Past The Point of Rescue. I really feel the story lines in these songs.
DL: What do you find most challenging about the music business?
LS: Everything. That said, the one that stands out is the procuring of performances and the logistics of making it all work.
DL: What is your favorite part of the music business and why? Your least favorite?
LS: My favorite part of the music business is Recording and my least favorite was answered in the prior question.
DL: If you could perform with anyone in the music business who would it be and why?
LS: Merle Haggard, he sang and wrote the songs that I really feel.
DL: Where is your favorite place to perform and why?
LS: I like to perform in an outdoor venue, I feel like I can relate better when I have vision of who I am singing to.
DL: Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
LS: I see myself still recording quality music and promoting to as many people that I can reach.
DL: What advice do you have for anyone wanting to get in the music business as a singer/songwriter?
LS: I would say, develop tough skin, keep your head down and grind on. Perform as much as possible and work tirelessly on your craft.
DL: Did you have professional coaching or lessons when. you first started?
LS: No, I learned on the job.
DL: Have you always wanted to be a singer/musician? If not, and you couldn’t be in the music business what career would you choose?
LS: From the age of five I knew I wanted to sing.
CLOSING THOUGHTS
Sims is a humble man, not even mentioning awards he has won such as entertainer of the year, band of and being named to the Colorado Hall of Fame. He and his grass-roots accompaniment, The Platte River Band, have performed across the United States and Canada. Sims has attracted the attention of radio commercial and television show producers and his voice has been a familiar to Colorado radio listeners for decades. Sims has also performed on a laundry list of demos for songwriters.
