FINDING WHERE FAITH AND MUSIC MEET - LISA MARIE NICOLE
By David C. Lannan
OPENING ACT
For Lisa Marie Nicole, podcaster and singer-songwriter, her musical journey started in a choir at a New Jersey grammar school. Since then she has written poetry, published two books and turned some of her writing into songs she performs. She performs Christian, rock, pop and country. And she interviews artists and writers on her Rocking for God podcast.
After appearing as a guest on one of her podcasts, I recently turned the tables on Lisa Marie and interviewed her.
Q&A WITH LISA MARIE
DL: Do you remember the first song you sang in public?
LM: “Oh Mickey your so fine” in an eighties talent show.
DL: Do you play any musical instruments? If you do, how do you feel it helps your musical journey?
LM: I play Acoustic and electric guitar and ukulele. I feel that it helps me express myself more when I write music.
DL: What is your inspiration for your songs?
LM: God is my number one inspiration, but I also write my music to help those who need to hear inspiring songs that suffer from mental and chronic pain as I do. This was a blessing from God for me to get his message out to the world.
DL: What is your favorite or couple of favorite originals you have sung/written and what do they mean to you?
LM: “United We Stand” was written as a poem after 911 and it means a lot to me, because I was there at the time, so I made it into a song. I needed to release this at the right time in mehimory of all who died that tragic day. Also, “Mama I Love You” is also based on a poem that I wrote for my mom. It means a lot to me that she is still alive to hear it. “I Cry Out to You Lord”, was written when I was suffering in life very bad and it has helped many people cope with the pain of life and depression. its off my first album.
DL: What do you find most challenging about the music
LM: Keeping up with everything going on, trying to not be like everyone else and getting turned down because I am a solo Christian artist and not in a band.
DL: What is your favorite part of the music business and why?
LM: Making new friends, collaborating with other artists, going to awards ceremonies, getting noticed for what and who I am.
DL: If you could perform with anyone in the music business who would it be and why?
LM: Jeremy Camp. I love him and he is an incredible songwriter and singer. I used to sing all of his music at our contemporary service. I would love to sing with him on stage. I also Like Lauren Daigle and Amy Grant.
DL: Where is your favorite place to perform and why?
LM: Any church or outdoor festival. I love to perform outdoors, I feel like I can feel heaven more when I am outside, I love the festivals on the coast of Florida and Micanopy Florida festival every year.
DL: Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
LM: Wherever God wants me to be. After I retire from music I would like to be a promoter or manager, down the line, but I would love to do some big shows first.
DL: What advice do you have for anyone wanting to get in the music business as a singer/songwriter?
LM: Be yourself, don't let anyone change who you are as a artist.
DL: Have you always wanted to be a singer/musician? If not, and you couldn’t be in the music business what career would you choose?
LM: I started out as a writer at 7 years old, then I became a poet in my teens. Later on in life I became an author. I started singing at 10 years old in the church choir. When I became a songwriter, I started singing professionally. I am self taught at everything, by the grace of God. So my whole life I feel that my calling is to write in any way possible, but singing is my passion also.

hDL: How does your faith influence your music and poetry writing?
LM: I get my lyrics and poems from the Holy Spirit, I can not write the way I do with the inspiration from God. I want to bring lost souls back home to the Lord with my music and poetry. That is why I will never stop my ministry, this is what I was born to do.
DL: How many books have you published and what were they?
LM: Two. The Christmas Stranger” released in Oct, 2024 and my new one, “Poetry For The Soul 2025,” available on my website lisamarienicole.com and ebook sites, Amazon etc..
DL: Why did you decide to start a podcast about faith and music?
LM: I was approached by John Benko from the 4persons network, a Catholic apostolate about doing a show, because I am good at talking to people. I said yes because I wanted to give Indie artists a platform to talk about their faith in public and their music. It got so popular that I had to add on shows every week.
Now I interview authors, anyone in the music industry, military vets, and others who have a testimony to tell.
DL: What is your favorite scripture verse or Bible story/event? Why?
LM: Everyone that knows me knows that Phil 4:13 is my favorite, “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength”. The scripture says it all, I can’t do anything without his strengtal. Also Matthew 19:26- “with God all things are possible.” I wrote songs based on these scriptures
DL: What are you looking for in your Rocking for God podcast guests?
LM: To be genuine, to be able to speak in public about their faith without being judged. To tell their story that only they can tell, to promote themselves and share songs and books to my audience.
